KOOK BEWUST: quality labels

The KOOK BEWUST label covers various recognised quality labels. There are also regional products that fall under KOOK BEWUST. These do not carry an official label, but come from the Netherlands, Belgium or the North Sea and are selected with attention to sustainability and a responsible approach.

Organically grown

Nature-friendly production is at the heart of organic farming. The EU organic label has legal status and guarantees that agricultural products are produced with respect for nature and responsible use of natural resources.

Demeter

Label for biodynamic farming (stricter than organic).

EU Organic

European label for organic products.

EKO

Dutch label that builds on organic, with additional requirements.

KRAV

Swedish organic label, stricter than EU organic.

USDA Organic

American organic label.

Soil Association

British organic label with additional requirements.

Sustainably produced

Sustainable production means producing with respect for nature and the environment. Raw materials are used responsibly and products are reusable, recyclable or biodegradable.

Planet Proof

Dutch label for more sustainable production, including food and flowers.

MSC

For sustainably caught wild fish.

ASC

For sustainable and responsible farming of fish and seafood.

Climate Neutral Certified

For climate-neutral companies and products, managed by Climate Neutral Group.

RSPO palm oil

For sustainable palm oil production.

GGN Certified Farming

For traceability and good agricultural practice (GLOBALG.A.P.).

FSC

For responsible forest management of wood/paper products.

EU Ecolabel

European environmental label for sustainable products/services.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Scandinavian environmental label (broad).

SRP Verified

Sustainable Rice Platform – for sustainable rice production.

Climate Activator

Not an official quality label; rather an activation programme or communication label without independent verification.

Fair trade

Respect for people and animals is at the heart of fair trade. Work is carried out with attention to animal welfare and human rights, with the aim of improving the social conditions and safety of producers in a vulnerable position.

Fairtrade

Internationally recognised label for fair trade.

Rainforest Alliance

Sustainability and human rights in tropical agriculture (e.g. coffee, cocoa)

Fair for life

Fairtrade alternative with broader social and ecological criteria.

Fair Trade USA

American label for fair trade.

Beter Leven 1 star

Animal welfare label of the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals (Dierenbescherming). Animals get more space, daylight and enrichment material.

Beter Leven 2 stars

Animal welfare label of the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals (Dierenbescherming). Animals also have the opportunity to go outside.

Beter Leven 3 stars

Animal welfare label of the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals (Dierenbescherming). Animals have more space indoors and outdoors and more freedom of choice.

Label Rouge

Label Rouge is a French quality label.
